Coming into Spring

Hello lovely reader! I thought I’d take some time to write down some thoughts on all things life and flowers while we head into this year (although I realise we are somehow already over a month in!)

Firstly, I want to say a huge thank you for all of the support so far, it’s so so appreciated. It’s been so lovely connecting with new people through Fille à Flleur and our various markets and workshops so far.

Secondly, can you believe that we’re almost into spring?! I don’t know about you but this winter has felt quite long and I’m beyond elated to see the daffodils and other spring bulbs shooting up through the earth. I feel a real sense of relief as the days start to get longer and the colours in our Flleurs more vibrant.

So, what have we been up to and what can you expect from us this year?

Well, we’re very excited to have some lovely weddings booked in already and also plan to be at the wedding fayre at Beau Sejour next week where it will be great to meet more of you! While working away on beautiful designs for our upcoming couples I’m also planning our wedding in September! (A very early heads up that we will be taking some time off for our wedding and honeymoon so will be away for about a month)

We had our first wedding in January, a beautiful winters wedding for C&C! We created flowers using the brief “dark and moody” which included lovely seasonal Flleurs such as Hellebores, scabiosa, ranunculus, ivy and berries. We also couldn’t resist a pop of colour with some coral spray roses as a nod to the beautiful bride, Coral.

We’ve been out and about in Guernsey delivering your arrangements and subscriptions and we’ve had some lovely feedback. We’ve also been selling our posies on the hedge stall at our house near Le Gouffre, Forest.

We ran some workshops around Christmas and had stalls at quite a few markets! We’re so pleased with how the workshops went and so grateful for everyone that chose to make a wreath with us. We also hope to run more workshops in the future including other floral skills such as flower arranging and really anything else you might want to learn, we’re open to suggestions!

We’ve done a couple of photoshoots with Kez (my soon to be sister in law!) at The Boho Bride. They’ve been a lovely chance to get creative with seasonal flowers and to give you guys a few more examples of wedding bouquets. I’m sure we will work together lots more in the future so watch this space!

We have some plans to grow a few different flowers this year, nothing crazy at this stage but hopefully enough to include some in your arrangements. This is something we hope to be able to do more of as we get into the swing of things.

In amongst all of this we’ve been using any surplus Flleurs to practice our floral skills and especially on expanding our “foam free” techniques. A little note on this, while I did a course last year with the lovely Roberta at the Good Florist, my eyes were opened to just how detrimental using floral foam can be. While it can sometimes feel like an easier option, the harsh effects it can have on both the environment and even our own health have definitely made this a no go for me.

Finally, with Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day both coming up very soon, we’re looking forward to creating special flowers for you and your loved ones!

Thank you for taking the time to read our updates. We look forward to sharing more musings throughout the year. Don't hesitate to reach out, we love hearing from you.

Lots of love from your flower girl,

Lara x
